General wellness exam

An essential step for keeping your pet healthy and disease free

Benefits of routine check ups

Routine wellness exams are an essential step for keeping your pet healthy and preventing disease and discomfort. When seen regularly by a veterinarian, pets are more likely to have medical issues caught sooner on or prevented altogether, ultimately helping your pet live a longer and happier life. Clients also find that preventative care reduces larger financial burdens caused by more urgent or unchecked progressive conditions.

How often should your pet come in for a wellness exam?

For adult pets over 8 months old, we recommend a general wellness exam every 6 months. Puppies and Kittens under 8 months require more frequent visits to get up to speed on vaccines and microchipping.

Depending on your pet’s breed, age, lifestyle, and pre-existing conditions we may recommend that they come in more than twice during the year.

What to expect during your routine wellness exam

During a comprehensive physical wellness exam, our team checks on your pet’s overall health and addresses any questions or concerns you have regarding their care.

Our veterinarians will check on your pet’s weight, eyes, ears, nose, throat, heart, lungs, abdomen, muscles, bones, skin, and teeth, looking for any abnormal changes or medical concerns. They’ll also talk with you about things like diet, water intake, activity level, behavior and weight changes.

Additionally, our veterinarians may perform diagnostic tests like blood work, urine and fecal tests to check for infection,  inflammation, anemia, liver function, and kidney function.

We will also make sure your pet is up to date on vaccinations and can help you make the right choices when administering proper flea, tick, and heart worm prevention. Heartgard and Nexgard are available for purchase for clients and should be administered on a monthly basis.

Depending on your pet’s breed, age, lifestyle, and pre-existing conditions, additional steps may be taken during these visits. For example our veterinarians may assist with diet planning, dental care, and behavioral analysis.
