New puppy exam

New puppy? We are are here for you.

What to expect at a new puppy exam?

We perform a full body exam and make sure your new puppy is happy and healthy. Our veterinarians will make sure their ears, nose, eyes, mouth, teeth and skin are free of infection. They will also listen to the heart and lungs to make sure everything sounds good. During the visit we will also verify a healthy weight and temperature.  We  also perform a fecal examination for parasites.

What vaccines are required for my new puppy?

We recommend vaccinating puppies once a month starting at 8 weeks of age until 4 months of age to build up a strong immune system.  The following is a rough outline of when puppies may receive certain vaccines. If your puppy is less than 8 weeks old you should still make and appointment to have a puppy wellness exam done. We will document current weight and temperature and can have a fecal parasite test done. These are important first steps for you puppies health and wellness.

At what age can I take my puppy to public outdoor spaces?

Puppies are very susceptible to catching various diseases and parasites while their immune system is developing. This means that you need to keep your dog in a safe, controlled environment like your house and your yard for the first 4 months of your puppy’s life and until your puppy is fully vaccinated. During this time dog parks, beaches, and other public places where other animals have access are off limits.
