Post operative care

What to expect after your pet undergoes surgery

While your pet is recovering from their procedure they may feel a little groggy as the anesthesia starts to wear off. Our caring staff ensures your pet is safe and comfortable during the entire process. We provide a comfortable space for your pets' time to make sure they are safe and comfortable during the entire process. We provide a warm, comfortable, private space to monitor your pet until they are ready to go home.

Surgical discharge sheets are provided to explain any post operative recommendations given by your veterinarian.

Depending on the procedure, your pet will start to behave more normally as early as 2-3 days post surgery. In the weeks post operation, you should limit regular activities that could affect your pet’s incision like running, jumping, swimming, or walking. You will also need to prevent licking or scratching the incision site because it could lead to infection or re-opening that will require additional treatment or surgery to fix. Using an Elizabethan cone collar can help you control licking or scratching. You should monitor the incision site daily as your pet heals and contact your veterinarian if your pet has swelling, itching, oozing or excessive redness at the incision site as it may be a sign of infection.
